This button will give access to certain helps in locating discrepancies, including the Discrepancy Report. Notice in the screenshot of the reconciliation screen, a button labeled Locate Discrepancies. So, in the above scenario, how does one find the reason the beginning balance is incorrect and what should be done to correct it? It also means those past changes/errors, when they occasionally crop up, must be dealt with. This way, changes/errors to past transactions will not go unnoticed. It adds all the cleared transactions in the account being reconciled, and that is the beginning balance. The better solution is the one QuickBooks uses. Even if it did, it would be a poor strategy. So, it cannot look there to find what that balance should be. When finding the opening balance for an account in the reconciliation screen, QuickBooks does not have a record of the previous reconciliation’s closing balance. If the beginning balance is incorrect, the reconcile process will never get to the correct ending balance. Upon opening the reconciliation screen to do the reconciliation for, the beginning balance shows as $23,246.29. It shows the ending balance for the reconciled account to be $23,171.79. Here is a reconciliation report from the bank statement in one of the sample files that come with QuickBooks. Yay! Lastly, select Finish now and you are good to go.The most difficult issue I have found in dealing with bank reconciliations in QuickBooks is when the beginning balance is incorrect. Once you’re done, you should see a difference of $0, which means your books are balanced. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “ R.Select the transaction you want to unreconcile to expand the view.Find the account holding the transaction.Need to undo a reconciled transaction? Not a problem! (If you’re in the middle of reconciling, stay on the page you’re on and skip to step 4). For example, if the payee is wrong, you can click on the transaction to expand the view and then select Edit. You can also make small edits if needed right within this window. Continue this through the whole statement. This marks that transaction as reconciled. If they match, put a checkmark next to the amount. You’ll want to look at your statement, starting with the first transaction listed and find that same transaction in the Reconciliation window in QuickBooks. The next step is basically a game of match. ![]() ![]() When you're ready to start, select Start reconciling.This may also be called the "new balance." If you choose to connect your bank and credit cards to your online account, QuickBooks will automatically bring over transactions and also the opening balance for you. When reconciling an account, the first bit of information you need is the opening balance. Reconciling gives you insight into your business and QuickBooks Online is equipped to make the process as easy as possible. While not required, keeping a close eye on your books and what’s coming in and out can save you from a lot of issues in the future. You can easily roll it into other month end tasks you work on to keep up on the state of your company. Reconciliation is a great practice to add to your business to-do list. ![]()
